How was the jam dance?
I'm sorry we didn't make it to this. I thought we had transportation worked out but it fell through at the last moment. How was it?
It was the biggest Jam Dance ever!
We were overwhelmed by a large group of enthusiastic Jam Dancers! This is a good thing, but our only musician, John Kavanagh, as wonderful a player as he is, struggled to be heard with his single ukulele. The room was full of people laughing and moving and generally having a great time, but the ideal jam in my head was not what actually happened. What happened was a form of barely contained chaos with rhythm sticks, drums and jingle bells. There were brief moments of cohesion but we desperately needed more musicians to sustain it.
An ordinary lady came in with her two ordinary boys and asked if this was open to the public and I said, "Sure! Come on in! Glad to have you here!" They said they were into making music. But they looked around at the growing crowd of noisy, exceptional people from the Flowercart, L'Arche, etc. and they had fear all over their faces. They literally bolted... Broke my heart....
People, People, People. Lovers of human potential and all that is beautiful and good in the world, please don't be afraid of people who look and act different. They are your teachers, friends and neighbors. They want to play with you. They need you to risk being friends with them - even for one hour a month... One hour. How will you evolve your higher selves if you give in to fear?
