rose cousins: if you were for me
We were waiting for disk disk for quite some time. In fact, we bought (paid for) it at the Evergreen theatre when we went to see Rose play completely unplugged, together with Meaghan Smith and Jill Barber. Rose was taking orders for an album which was then being recorded. The record came in the mail today and it is so brand spanking new that i had to enter the track names when i played the CD with my eye tunez thinggie....
Even the CD cover and the associated graphics seem very right. It's a card-board case with a minimal amount of plastic for the CD tray and the type face is “hand written”, lots of flowers, and a (truly) handwritten, personal note from Rose, thanking for our support. Rose cares about both her music and her audience.
Feeling curious? Wanna know how it sounds? Should I tell?
Hehehe....
I got it :)
and you don't (yet).
Hehehe....
There are eleven songs on this album and the first one is called “good enough”. It's now playing for the second (or third?) time. Rose is is singing and playing acoustic guitar, waltzing up our living room “... goes without saying ... sadness ain't stayin...” some of the snatch ups from her lyrics. Love it, awesome start. Introduced some of the band mandolin, bass etc. very tastefull :)
Now it's “edmonton”, the second tune. Edmontion also happens to be a town a tiny bit west of wolfville. “Too hard to hold on to.” I keep wondering why Rose's lyrics keep slippin into my typing. I keep going back to put quotes around those lines, lest readers think i came up with those lines. I didn't!
Here's a “simple thought” (also title of track #3): Contact Rose and get this record immediately. She's a wonderful singer... Hmmm this tune got harmony vocals. Shivers. “Let it all go” With a piano. How does Dave do that? At the same time as drumming? Hmmm. Very Kool.
I love how the Voice sounds, right there, up front of the mix. Harmonies again. Lots o color. Now I'm hearing the title track: “if you were for me”. I've started to get caught up listening. I won't tell you EVERYTHING about this album. It's a waltz again. Six eight-ish stuff, laid back and... geez I'm really excited. This record... I tell ya... while supplies last, I guess...
It's nice to hear a slick production which takes nothing away from the singer/songwriter. I like the 6/8, too. Rose is supported by a most excellent group of musicians, playing violin, cello, pedal steel guitar and many other instruments in a very supportive fashion.
Hehehe.
This record is SOME KEWL!! Go get it!

Awww.....thanks Rose.
What a great album. I've been waiting forever after seeing her live. If you've ever seen her, her warmth comes across in the album. I recognized every song she sang last time i saw her, to now on her recording. What an amazing songwriter. And it gets better. Her tone is so pleasant, and her phrasing laid back. The album as a whole couldn't be better. Nothing offends me. Perfection.I found myself wondering which R.C. am i going to cover. I became stumped, as her songs are so simple and only she can do justice to them.Nine thumbs up!!!!!!
i will look for this
and i want to learn more about your video software
