Walking The Literacy Mile June 11, 2006 (see video)

Did you know one in four adults in Kings County have serious difficulty with reading, writing and arithmetic? That's more people than the entire population of Wolfville! This poses a serious problem to the overall health and well being of our whole community.

The Kings County Learning Association provides individual tutoring, classes and services for people who need help reading prescriptions or other important documents. These absolutely essential programs and services need the help of every person in Kings County because literacy affects all of us. Fortunately it is very inexpensive to help in a big way! If every person in Kings County gives one dollar to the Kings County Learning Association, it will raise approximately $63,000.00 which will help address this very serious problem.

There are other ways to help. Consider volunteering to tutor a person who needs help with reading, writing or math. Or make yourself available as a reader for those who have difficulty and don't have the time to learn to read because they are disabled by accident or life circumstances.

Finally I urge you to get involved in The Literacy Mile Event which takes place in Kentville on June 11. Buy a few feet of sidewalk, bring coloured chalk and make art. Bring your friends, your business, your association and family! Walk the Literacy Mile! Enjoy the sidwalk art! Dance to Live Music. Learn more!
